Burr Grinder vs. Blade? What’s the Best Coffee Grinder?
If you want even and consistent coffee flavor, we highly recommend using a burr grinder. That is since they provide a much more even grind size, which makes for good coffee. More consistent sizes in the grind will always give you better control of the flavor extraction from your coffee maker.Whether you are using a pour over, moka pot, French press, cold brew, or drip method for making your coffee, burr grinders are the best for even and consistent grinding. Its much easier to get the right grind size with a burr grinder than a blade coffee grinder. Bur grinders can cost thousands of dollars for high volume commercial applications. But if you’re looking for a budget burr coffee grinder for home use the Bremen burr is an ideal choice. Some people searching for a budget electrical grinder will choose a blade grinder for its flexibility and lower price. If you are looking for flexibility with your grinder so you can also grind spices, herbs & nuts, we would recommend checking out out Bremen Electric Blade Grinder. This grinder is much easier to clean when you are swapping out your grind ingredients.
Manual coffee grinder vs. electric coffee grinder, What Should I Choose?
Great question! Hand or electric coffee grinder, what is better? Well we have done some research on this topic for you and written a blog article about it. Check it out here.
Each type of coffee mill has its own pros and cons. While one is more convenient, another can give you better coffee. One may offer storage for ground coffee, and the other may be easier to clean. In general whichever coffee grinder you choose, we recommend freshly grinding your coffee beans just before brewing.
A good barista will always fresh grind your beans for your espresso or your coffee. Coffee shops that open foil bags of pre-ground coffee beans are not giving you a freshly ground cup with full flavor. When coffee beans are ground they produce off-gasses from the natural oxidation of the ground coffee. When coffee is giving off these off-gasses it cannot be packed in little cups or foil pouches since the pressure of the gasses will make these containers pop. So the manufacturers have to let the coffee finish off the oxidation, actually making it go stale before packing it in the little plastic cups or pouches.
So whether you choose manual or electric, always fresh grind your coffee! And stay away from stale cups and pre packed pouches. Fresher is better. Always.
